The CALABARZON Regional Gender and Development Committee (RGADC) led the way in recognizing women in various roles and their contributions to the region’s success and development during the 2023 Regional Women’s Month Celebration, March 31, at the Cultural Center of Laguna in Santa Cruz, Laguna.

This annual event emphasized this year’s theme, “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society,” and subtheme, “Creating WE Opportunities in Science, Technology, and Innovation,” showcasing women and everyone in the disciplines of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI).

National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) IV-A Assistant Regional Director Ms. Carmela P. Matabang imparted her welcoming message where she discussed how the government addresses different issues affecting women, particularly those who had been abused.

Province of Laguna Provincial Human Resource Management Officer Ms. Leah Teresa R. Javier expressed her gratitude for the momentous event while sharing her goal to build a society with equal rights and opportunities for women.

NEDA IV-A Secretary Mr. Marlon T. Natividad presented an overview of the forum and acknowledged the participants. In her keynote address, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region IV-A Assistant Regional Director for Finance and Administrative Services Ms. Lyn A. Fernandez acknowledged women who, despite obstacles, contribute to the advancement of science and technology. She also urged everyone to support women in science and technology in order to expand their prospects.

The event also held a talk show with successful women, including Laguna 2nd District Rep. Ruth Mariano-Hernandez, Dr. Eden C. Callo of Laguna State Polytechnic University, Ms. Leonie Reyes of Natures Dew Enterprise, and Dr. Patricia Sanchez of the University of the Philippines Los Ba帽os. They recounted their experiences overcoming difficulties and challenges, lessons that helped them achieve their present success, and knowledge that might benefit other women.

RGADC Co-Chairperson Ms. Josephine C. Parilla extended her appreciation to all the participants. She also led the turnover ceremony for the gathering’s next in-charge, from Laguna State Polytechnic University to Batangas State University.
